Melbourne doesn't seem to have many places that are open 24 hours.. Then again, you might say I haven't done enough research. Anyway, for me, this usually only presents itself as a problem when we've run out of alcohol at a party or when I get hungry at 2am.This happened to be the case early Saturday morning. I thought I'd take the easy way out and grab some junk from a drive thru, remembering that Hungry Jacks on Kings Way was still open. But as we walked back to the car from a bar in St. Kilda, we came across this quaint little place called Danny's Diner - Unfortunately, as appealing as a hamburger was, they advised that they had stopped frying chips. Understandable at 2am yes, but one can't have a hamburger without chips?
So my better half reminds me that the Embassy Cafe was still open, joy!!
Now the Embassy may not look appealing to all, considering it is West Melbourne and there is minimal lighting but once you're inside you will find you will quickly change your mind.
The Embassy Taxi Cafe has been open since 1962, but I only found out about it last year. Its located on a corner on Spencer St (can't remember the exact corner but address will be supplied). You think being on Spencer St it would be easily noticeable, although once you've been there you won't forget where it is.
The burgers are great, they have breakfast available all the time, milkshakes hit the spot nicely and it seemed that the dim sims were really popular as they were being ordered by the dozen. The ladies there are tough (they mainly get cabbies and shift workers in so they have to be!) but they are very friendly and cheerful, especially at such a late hour.
The Embassy serves a great bite for a fair price, more than fair for the eating experience alone. They even have coin operated massage chairs!
So even though a tasty dirty kebab may seem like the logical choice after a night of clubbing in Melbourne or some drive thru take away the easier choice, give the Embassy a go! :)

P.S. As far as I'm aware, they only take cash.
